If something overwhelming or painful from the past
is still affecting you now,
you’re in the right place.

Maybe something bad happened to you and you've noticed that it's shaping your reactions, relationships, or ability to focus and function day to day. You might notice...

  • your emotions feel harder to manage—you feel overwhelmed, irritable, anxious, numb, or like your feelings don’t match the situation.

  • you feel on edge more than you used to—easily startled, jumpy, tense, or on guard, and your body reacts too, even when you're trying to stay calm.

  • your mind won’t let it go—intrusive memories or thoughts show up out of nowhere, you have trouble concentrating, or sleep is disrupted by nightmares or racing thoughts.

  • you’ve pulled back from people or life—relationships feel harder, trust feels risky, or you avoid certain places, conversations, or situations because they bring up too much.

  • you have negative beliefs about other people, the world, or yourself (or feel shame or guilt about what happened to you) and you have a hard time experiencing joy or fulfillment.

Trauma Therapy Can Help You...

  • feel less hijacked by painful memories, so they don’t keep popping up and running the show.

  • feel less overwhelmed and more steady day to day, with less anxiety and heaviness, and feel more like yourself again.

  • carry less guilt or shame about what happened to you, and stop blaming yourself for things that weren’t your fault.

  • be kinder to yourself, with more understanding and self-compassion instead of self-judgment.

  • feel more at ease and connected in your relationships, as old patterns loosen and your reactions start to soften.

  • experience fewer trauma-related symptoms, such as trouble sleeping, feeling on edge, avoidance, or feeling emotionally shut down. (Learn more about trauma symptoms here.)

About Me

I help people reduce the impact of traumatic events on their relationships, work, and day-to-day life, so they can stop being held back by the past and have a fulfilling future.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with 18 years' experience helping adults navigate struggles and challenges with greater clarity, perspective, and self-compassion. My background includes a master’s degree in counseling and psychology and extensive training in evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches. My work has also been shaped by my own difficult life experiences, which have taught me how important it is to have support that is both compassionate and grounded in reality.

Over the years, my work has consistently centered on helping people feel understood, make sense of what they’re experiencing, and recognize that their reactions are human responses to what they’ve lived through—not signs that something is “wrong” with them. As my practice has evolved, I’ve chosen to focus my counseling work specifically on trauma and recovery from overwhelming life experiences, offering structured, time-limited therapy designed to reduce the impact of the past on daily life and relationships in the present.

In addition to this counseling practice, I also have a coaching practice focused on helping women to stop people-pleasing and over-functioning so they can live with more ease and peace. Coaching and counseling are distinct services, with different goals and structures. You can learn more about my coaching work here.

My Approach to Trauma Therapy

The primary therapy I offer at this time is Written Exposure Therapy,
a brief, evidence-based approach for trauma recovery.

Written Exposure Therapy is designed to help people reduce the lingering impact of traumatic or overwhelming experiences by gently and systematically working with the memories that continue to cause distress. It is a structured, time-limited treatment that typically takes place over 6-8 sessions, making it a good fit for people who want focused help without committing to open-ended therapy.

Research has shown Written Exposure Therapy to be effective in reducing trauma-related symptoms linked to a wide range of experiences, including childhood trauma, assault, and accidents. Studies comparing Written Exposure Therapy to longer-term trauma treatments have found it to be equally effective, with the added benefit that people are more likely to complete the full course of therapy because of its brief format.

How It Works

1

Free Consultation

First, you contact me to set up a time for a free 15-minute consultation phone call. We'll chat and see if this type of therapy will be a good fit, and whether I'm the right therapist for you. It will be an opportunity to get all your questions answered as well. Then we schedule our first session.

2

First/Intake Session

We’ll meet 1:1 for a 60-minute video session (telehealth). You’ll learn about all the ways trauma can impact us, and why it often makes life feel so hard. Then you’ll learn why exposure-based therapy is effective and how Written Exposure Therapy works, and we’ll prepare for the first writing session.

3

Weekly Sessions

We'll have weekly 45-50-minute sessions for the next 5 weeks. If we find that an additional 1-2 sessions would be helpful, we'll schedule those at the end of the 6th session. Completing a short course of Written Exposure Therapy results in decreased emotional distress and trauma symptoms.

*Location: You don’t need to live in Maine to work with me, but you do need to be physically located in Maine at the time of each session, due to counselor licensing rules. (I'm licensed in Maine only.)

Age range: I work with adults only (18+). I do not offer counseling for children or teens.

Format: I offer telehealth therapy only (secure 1:1 video sessions); no in-person sessions at this time. Written Exposure Therapy can be delivered effectively in virtual sessions.

Quick FAQs

How Much Does It Cost?

Sessions are $75 each, and you pay per session at the end of your appointment.

I’ve intentionally set reduced fees, below the regional average, to make trauma therapy accessible for people paying out of pocket. My practice operates on a self-pay model. Because I charge a reduced fee, insurance reimbursement is not available.

Because this therapy is time-limited (usually 6 sessions,) the cost is a defined, short-term expense rather than an ongoing financial commitment. While the fee is lower, the care is not—my work is grounded in evidence-based trauma treatment and I am an experienced, licensed clinician.

This model is often a good fit for people who are un-insured or under-insured (high deductible, high copay, poor coverage for mental health services,) or who want to avoid the complexities of insurance-based care and prefer a straightforward approach to paying for therapy.
