Therapy Fees & Insurance
Fees
Figuring out what therapy will cost is an important part of deciding whether it’s workable for you.
I offer several payment options, including the use of out-of-network insurance benefits and a reduced self-pay rate.
I’m happy to help you figure out the ins and outs of my fees, your payment options, your insurance coverage, etc., I understand it can be confusing and frustrating.
Please don't let it become a stressor! Set up a free phone consult and we can sort it out together.
-
Standard therapy session: $140 (≈53 minutes)
-
Reduced self-pay: $80 (≈45 minutes)
-
Intake session (1st session only): $175 (≈60–75 minutes)
You may also use HSA or FSA payments for eligible therapy services, including out-of-pocket costs and co-insurance.
Can I use my insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not participate directly with insurance plans. However, many insurance policies include out-of-network mental health benefits that may reimburse you for part of the cost of therapy.
Depending on your plan, you may end up paying only a portion of my full session fee out of pocket.
I have partnered with Thrizer to give clients the option of getting help accessing their out-of-network benefits. Thrizer can check your estimated benefits, submit eligible claims, track them, and help with the insurance billing process.
You can use the benefits checker below to get an estimate of:
-
whether you have out-of-network mental health benefits
-
your deductible and how much you have met
-
your estimated cost per session

How does out-of-network billing work?
If you decide to use your insurance, you have several options. You can pay the full session fee and have Thrizer submit your claims for you, or you can submit superbills (special receipts) to your insurance company yourself. Some clients may also qualify for Thrizer Pay, which allows you to pay only your estimated out-of-pocket portion upfront rather than paying the full session fee and waiting for reimbursement. Thrizer charges a small fee for its billing services. We can go over the different options together and decide what makes the most sense for you. Your actual cost will depend on your particular plan, deductible, coinsurance, and allowed amount.
What if my insurance doesn't help much?
I offer a reduced self-pay rate of $80 for a 45-minute session for clients whose insurance does not provide useful out-of-network coverage or whose deductible makes using insurance impractical.
This may be an option if you:
-
do not have health insurance
-
do not have out-of-network mental health benefits
-
have a high deductible you are unlikely to reach
-
would otherwise have substantial out-of-pocket costs using your insurance
Reduced-fee sessions are self-pay only and are not submitted to insurance for reimbursement.
HSA & FSA Payments
Yes. HSA and FSA funds may be used for eligible therapy services, including standard-fee and reduced-fee sessions, as well as your co-insurance.
Benefits of Focused, Time-Limited Therapy
The therapy I offer is designed to be focused and intensive, (usually 12 sessions or fewer,) so the cost is a more defined, short-term expense rather than an open-ended commitment to weekly therapy for many months.
I'm not sure which option makes the most sense for me. What should I do?
You don't need to figure out all the insurance details before contacting me. If you'd like, you can start with the Thrizer benefits checker above to see what your out-of-network coverage may look like. My goal is to help you understand your choices clearly before you begin therapy. I'd be happy to help you compare your options and decide what makes the most financial sense for you on our first call.
Do you accept Medicare or MaineCare?
I am not enrolled as a provider with Medicare or MaineCare and do not provide therapy services to clients who have Medicare or MaineCare coverage.
